Privacy Policy

Who we are

Our website address is: https://askwpgirl.com. We are a WordPress website consulting service in Boulder, Colorado, operated by Ask WP Girl, LLC.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form (Name, Email, and Website), and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

If you fill out the contact form on this website, we will ask you to provide some personal information (such as e-mail address, name, phone number, address, IP address, and website).

Information that you provide to us through a contact form or an online chat will be used so that we may respond to your inquiry, enroll you in an online course, or communicate with you about the course you are enrolled in.

Cookies

Cookies are simply small pieces of data that are sent to your browser from a Web server and stored on your computer’s hard drive.

The use of cookies is relatively standard. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. However, if you prefer, you can set your browser to either notify you when you receive a cookie, or to refuse to accept cookies. You should understand that some features of many sites may not function properly if you don’t accept cookies.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Other cookies that may be stored are related to third-party services such as Google fonts, Adobe Typekit fonts (read their privacy policy here – https://www.adobe.com/privacy/policies/typekit.html), Monotype Fonts (read their privacy policy here – https://www.monotype.com/legal/privacy-policy), Gravatar, and Google’s services.

Our site does use third-party vendors, including Google, who uses cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to your website or other websites. Please read more about how Google uses your data here: https://www.google.com/policies/technologies/partner-sites/

Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings. (Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.)

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We also use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site–you can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here:  https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/.  You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here:  https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Our Google Analytics data is anonymous.

Logs

As is true with most websites and services delivered over the Internet, we gather certain information and store it in log files when you interact with our website. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses as well as browser type, internet service provider, URLs of referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, information you search for, locale and language preferences, identification numbers associated with your devices, your mobile carrier, and system configuration information. It may be possible to connect personal information to information gathered in our log files as necessary to improve our website. In such a case, we would treat the combined information in accordance with this Policy.

Legal Basis for Processing (EEA only):

If you are an individual from the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for collecting and using the personal information will depend on the personal information concerned and the specific context in which we collect it. However, we will normally collect personal information from you only where: (a) we have your consent to do so, (b) where we need the personal information to perform a contract with you (e.g. to deliver the website services you have requested), or (c) where the processing is in our or a third party’s legitimate interests (and not overridden by your data protection interests or fundamental rights and freedoms). In some cases, we may also have a legal obligation to collect personal information from you, or may otherwise need the personal information to protect your vital interests or those of another person.

Where we rely on your consent to process the personal information, you have the right to withdraw or decline your consent at any time. Please note that this does not affect the lawfulness of the processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

Who we share your data with

We will not sell, rent, or lease mailing lists or other user data to others, and we will not make your personal information available to any unaffiliated parties, except as follows:

  • to agents, website vendors and/or contractors who may use it on our behalf or in connection with their relationship with us;
  • if we are unable to assist with your matter, but know another company that may be able to help you, we may refer you and share information you provided us with that party.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Contact form submissions and comment notifications are processed via our email sending service which retains the email address and sending activity log for 30 days. Subscriptions to newsletters are sent to MailChimp — you can read more about how MailChimp uses your personal information here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/. Support requests are sent to our online support ticketing system (ZenDesk) and retained there per our data retention policy above — you can read more about how ZenDesk uses your personal information here: https://www.zendesk.com/company/customers-partners/privacy-policy/.

Disclosure to third parties

We will not disclose your personal data to third parties except as follows:

  • when we believe disclosure is reasonably required to comply with any law or legal request;
  • to enforce our legal and contractual rights, or to protect the rights and safety of others;
  • to third parties who help us provide any part of the Site or the Services, to the limited extent required for such help, and on condition that they may not further disclose your data or use it for any other purpose; or
  • as part of a sale of our assets or a merger of our company.

We remain responsible for compliance with this Privacy Policy by third parties to whom we disclose your personal data.

Procedures to protect personal data

We have put in place reasonable measures and appropriate procedures for implementing these policies and for safeguarding the personal data we collect. However, we cannot guarantee that personal data we collect will never be disclosed in a manner inconsistent with this Privacy Policy.

We follow generally accepted standards to protect the personal data submitted to us, both during transmission and once it is received.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You may opt-out of receiving most e-mails from us by following the “unsubscribe” instructions provided in the e-mails. Alternatively, you may contact us as described herein. If you are our customer, you may not be able to opt out of all emails, including certain administrative or billing communications which are important to the ongoing maintenance of your account.

We may keep your personal data for as long as reasonably required to meet the purposes described herein. Additionally, we will retain this information as required by law, as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
